Our Guidance.
Their Inquiry.
With the IB framework, we guide students to ask meaningful questions, think critically, and take ownership of their learning.
At Shu Ren International School, the International Baccalaureate (IB) framework is at the heart of everything we do. As one of the few Mandarin immersion IB schools in the United States, we provide students with an inquiry-driven education that goes beyond memorization and test scores. Instead, our students learn how to ask meaningful questions, make connections across subjects, and apply their learning to the real world.
Through the Primary Years Programme (PYP), Shu Ren students gain the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to become confident learners and compassionate global citizens. They don’t just prepare for the next grade level—they develop the curiosity, resilience, and understanding to thrive in high school, college, and in life.
At Shu Ren, teaching is guided by the Concept-Based Inquiry Cycle, which invites students to explore big ideas in depth and make meaningful connections across subjects. By questioning, investigating, reflecting, and applying what they learn, students develop critical thinking and curiosity that reach far beyond memorization.
This approach empowers children to take an active role in their education, building creativity, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.
IB Learner Profiles

We focus on developing Approaches to Learning Skills that give students the tools to become independent, lifelong learners. Through collaboration, critical thinking, communication, and self-management, they learn to face challenges with confidence and creativity. These essential skills are woven into every subject and activity, ensuring that students grow not only in academic success but also as adaptable, reflective, and responsible individuals who are ready to thrive in a complex and ever-changing world.
